Nice dinners, excellent Sunday brunch
We've visited the Beechwood Grill (where Andre's used to be) on several occasions. With very few exceptions, the food is excellent and the service is very friendly and attentive.

The soups at Beechwood are failsafe ways to kick-start the meal; we've had corn-based, red pepper-based, and minestrone and they all rocked. Most of the appetizers are worthwhile; we weren't quite so fond of the goat cheese pastry as our server, but the calamari with Thai dipping sauce is fantastic. One time I made the mistake of ordering sushi at Beechwood, and I won't be doing that again.

They have a nice variety of sandwiches for lunch or dinner. The smoked turkey is more heavenly than turkey has any right to be, and the burger served on an onion roll is one of the best I've had in town.

Entrees are all very good, especially the duck breast and the steak Diane. A small but serviceable wine selection complements the meals nicely. The only problem we've had is the selection feels limited; the few items on the menu have stayed the same for a long time, and the specials lately always seem to be two fish variants. (Hey, guys, throw a meat dish in there every now and then, eh?) As a result, we haven't been back for dinner in a while.

On Sunday, when just about everything else in Little Rock closes down, Beechwood serves up one of my favorite Sunday brunches ever. The banana-walnut pancakes are satisfying, the chorizo breakfast burrito is awesome. The spicy salmon corn cakes, however, are one of my favorite things to eat in all Little Rock.

Beechwood Grill is a really nice place to eat; it may not be in the same league as Ciao Bacci, but neither is it as crowded, noisy, or smokey.    [13 Jul 2004 16:45:28]

Poor Service, Attitude, and Overpriced
My wife and I scheduled a wedding rehearsal dinner for 20 people 9/24/04 @ 6pm. Only one waiter was available. I ordered coffee, caesar salad, and steak. The salad was wilted, not croutons and it stunk. I got one cup of coffee in 1 hour and 10 minutes. The food arrived after 1 1/2 hours. The waiter grabbed the salad and handed me a cold steak which I sent back. The only bread served was a finger sized cut for each diner. I finally got a second cup of coffee after I complained about the service to a dull young girl whose excuse was a second waiter would get in the way of the first waiter. The food portions were so small some the diners make remarks about going to the nearest Burger King. I paid $501.00 for this fiasco. I was charged a 20% gratuity and told if I wanted a second waiter I would have to pay 40%. Pat Herron, the owner, was not there and the dull girl seemed to be in charge. I finally got a third cup of coffee and the bill. I also received a doggy box with a cold steak. Was I supposed to heat it myself? I finally got to talk to Pat Herron about 4 days later. He acted as if he didn't want to be bothered or even care. After all, he had been paid, so what did he care. He probably never would see me again.    [17 Aug 2005 08:00:04]
