Great Restaurant at
She is a great lady...the owner Fran!! When my 82 year old mother was up there with me, she was so gentle!! So respectful!! Also, her son gave us the most wonderful tour of Barrow...free!! He also has an incredible museum....wonderful stuff he has found and other people have found, stuffed polar bears and wolves etc.
Oh, I also bought Fran's book Tacos on the Tundra and she signed it for me!!! [30 Jul 2002 17:28:15]

Great lady, excellent food, and great place.
Fran has been in Barrow forever and has been the owner of this restaurant for the same amount of time. This is a must stop to eat at while in Barrow. It is one of the top three places in town to eat. Large menu selections and if you don't see what you want, ask. If you let your waiter/waitress know you are from out of town and this is your first visit, Fran will personally introduce herself to you, have you sign her guest book and give you a little something to remember the place by. Worth the Trip all the way from New Hampshire
Was a highlight of our 3 month trip to Alaska. "Joe" was such fun & made our visit so memorable. Highly recommend you stop here for lunch. Fran made us welcome though we never received the "promised" calendar, we were given a Barrow pin. The food was ample & delicious. [17 May 2004 20:02:02]

Wonderful Surprise!!!
A surprising highlight of our 3-month Alaska trip was eating at Pepe's. If you go to Alaska, you MUST go to Barrow...if you go to Barrow, you MUST eat at Pepe's!!! A wonderful Alaskan memory. [21 Jan 2006 21:23:51]

Pepe's is a experience you should NOT miss!
Visit Pepe's at a quiet time! Walk in just as they are closing (that's what I do). The advantage is you will get Fran and her son "Joe the Waterman" all to yourself. The food is great, the ambiance is unbelievable... but all of that is nothing compared to spending a bit of time visiting with either Fran or Joe. [10 Apr 2006 09:26:27]

The Best
This last July (2006) a friend and I spent 4 wonderful days in Barrow and the best breakfast we had was at Pepe's. Unfortunatley we missed Fran but we did get to meeet Joe. Food is terrific, atomosphere is great as well. Someday I hope to return to Barrow and again eat at Pepe's North of the Border.

Wouldn't Have Expected It...
Wouldn't have expected to find a place like Pepe's in Barrow, but there it is. The food's good, and it's an interesting place. The owner, Fran, is a real institution in Barrow. Fran also runs the "Polar Bear Swim" which I can recommend in case you're too warm after dinner and need to cool off a bit... [28 Jan 2007 21:11:29]

How a Restaurant SHOULD Be
This place was an unexpected treat to find. When you travel "to the end of the Earth" (literally), you don't expect to find excellent and personable service, great food, and a really nice atmosphere. The owner Fran is a joy to talk with and is an excellent example of the Alaskan Spirit that we lower 48'ers all think that the Alaskans have. We were treated like we were favorite relatives instead of just tourists by Fran and her staff. Pepe's is truly one of Alaska's gems. [12 Feb 2007 16:03:48]
