This is the most beautiful and elegant restaurant on St. John... - Frommers; Capsule review. - Suggest Change

Excellent My wife and I had one night out on the town without the kids and we chose to go to Asolare. It was a great evening. We sat at the bar and had a couple of drinks before dinner and then had a great meal on the patio. Closed Down by the Health Department the Night We Visited. 3/18/2006 My boyfriend and I saved Asolare for our last night on St. John and were so disappointed when, while waiting at the bar, we heard a commotion in the front dining room. At that point, a man proceeded into the bar to rip Asolare's health permit from the wall and asked everyone - even those who were already seated and eating - to leave the premises.
We were then shuttled over to one of Asolare's sister restaurants in Cruz Bay and told to speak to the manager. We did so and were told that we would be "taken care of." The food at the sister restaurant (the name evades me at this moment--it's on the second floor in the "arcade" area and you have to walk up a flight of circular stairs to access it) was dismal. I'm a girl who can praise a good burger but this place had the most awful Asian tuna I've had in a long time. To boot, the manager didn't take a single item off our bill; instead, he told us that, "the next time you visit, I'll get you a great table at Asolare."
The experience would have been bearable if management had actually done something to take care of us but their total disregard made us vow that we'd never return or recommend Asolare to anyone.
