My Experience
This is one of the worst Indonesian Restaurant I have been to. The worst service and the food was at very low quality.
~things ordered
* Sotong Selatan = Not fully cooked and the sotong was chewy.
* Ayam Pangang Padang = The chicken tasted liked it was recooked and it had a rubbery taste, could be not fresh.
* Tahu Bumbu Kecap = Was the only dish which was nice.
* Pepes Ikan = was like otak otak cant find the fish meat at all. tasted like a cheap and simple otak which they sell at MRT Stations on a bicycle.
Overall really spoilt our appetite and we will never go there again. They have a long way to go. They need a good Manager and a better Chef. Nice and cosy but sad that it was not like what it looks when you taste it.
The service staff is rude, no follow up service and there was no extra touch. Staff were not even bothered to refill your water. No eye contact. [22 Sep 2002 04:45:23]

GURAME is Better
I wonder how did they (Desa Kartika) get an award of good service when it is too poor. My parents went down to have dinner at 5.00pm on Monday (6 Jan 03) they order pepes ikan and commented that the fish is not fresh and it's been like they have kept the fish since last night. How in the hell they do their work?? Not only the food that taste bad but their service as well. Their waitress did not do their job like refilling a glass of plain water or asking us if there's anything else we want. but kept talking to each other. What I am not satisfied is that the food is already taste bad but we are still being charge a 10% service. My parents did complain to them and they said they will take action but none.. With this kind of service, I don't think Desa Kartika will ever be a success restaurant unless they improve. I gave this restaurant two thumbs DOWN. Other restaurant is better. [08 Jan 2003 19:31:31]

Unprofessional Service
I've been to DK on 10 May 2003 for dinner and when I was slurping the chendol, I found a 50cents coin in the bowl! When I approach the waitress, she offered me a new one. Of course, I said "No"! But the worst thing of all, the manager did not even come over to apologise. It was very disappointing and unprofessional service. [12 May 2003 03:41:45]

Wonderful Food

Make it better for everyone - together
I am one of the shareholders of Desa Kartika and I plead to everyone who eats there to heed this saying: 'Kalao sedap bilang orang, kalao tak bilang kita'. This means that if its nice, please recommend, and if its not, please be mature about it and inform our staff of our misgivings. If there are any problems with the service or food, please inform our manager or myself and we will sort things out. I want everyone to love Desa Kartika as much as I do, so please help me out. Improving...
I've been to DK a number of times, both alone and with my family. I think the food has improved a lot but the servings are too small compared with Kintamani Restaurant, who have generous portions. Excellent!
Its the first time I tried the food at Desa Kartika. I would say that the food served there is quite delicious, I think better than other Indonesian restaurants that I have tried before in Singapore. They have a large choice of food from spicy to mild dishes for those who can't eat spicy food (like my mom). I went there with my family for dinner and was satisfied with the service. All food was served within 10 minutes! We did not need to wait long for the food, which was good because all of us went there with an empty stomach.
We tried the avocado for desert. Not too thick and not too watery.

Service not that good?
Not sure about the other comments but i thought the service was great. I went there during mother's day and was impressed with their service. The service staff is very professional. The have warm smiles, and are pleasant and polite. The food was on the table in a just a few minutes. My mom even received a mother's day gift from the owner! [12 Oct 2005 02:17:18]

Confused

Good Food
We went to DK to have dinner, and we enjoyed our meal tremendously. Now that I am not in Singapore, the first thing that I craved when I was pregnant was their Ayam Bali dish. I have tried that dish at several other establishments but the Ayam Bali at DK is heaps good. I will drop by the restaurant when I am in Singapore. The Ice Avocado there is a compulsory dish too!
