For starters, we had lobster custard bisque which was unusual but tasted great, and my partner had the cream of frothy mushroom soup which was also yummy. This was followed by duck which was delicious and melted in the mouth. Desert was another unique creation, a chocolate filled paper-thin pastry. The food is presented well and is fresh. Portions were as to be expected from a fine eaterie and extremely tasty. The staff is friendly but not overbearing, and made useful recommendations. They clearly enjoy their jobs! A special mention also goes to the Manager who mingles with the guests and is remarkably well informed about the culinary delights as well as fine wines from all over the world.

The decor looks lovely and creates a wonderfully warm, friendly ambience befitting a modern French restaurant. The background music has a French flair and was not too intrusive so that it is easy to chat (some other guests were obviously having dinner meetings for which it is ideal). It is spotlessly clean, as are the toilets. We had a chance to visit the kitchen which is also clean.

Although the restaurant has class, it is not too expensive and can certainly stand proud along side top notch French restauarants in Paris as well as the best that Singapore has to offer. I have already heartily recommended this place to friends since it is such a great experience. The restaurant is located in the same building as the action theatre and it is possible to sit outside in the courtyard and have canapes with a good glass or two of fine wine. When we were there there was a group of around 30 have a presentation dinner in the courtyard.    [17 Oct 2006 12:36:14]

Romantically superb
Great food with great unassuming ambience. A getaway from the normal restaurants where one is constantly hounded by staff. Excellent food with undoubtedly an excellent overall dinig experience.    [23 Jun 2007 11:09:31]

High praise at Waterloo
Friends told me about this restaurant and finally got a chance to dine there with much anticipation. Brought a foreign friend who wanted something unique and everything in this restaurant is wonderful. The setting is very laid back with a courtyard for cocktail and dinner in the dining room. Will return with more friends, great staff and great food at great prices.    [18 Jul 2007 00:17:13]

A hidden gem in a new location
First I have to start by mentioning that Le Pont de Vie has moved - but don't despair, they are now located in a beautifully renovated shop house at 26 Kandahar Street in the historic Kampong Glam district, near the Sultan Mosque. The decor at the new location has a distinctly 1920's feel with a two tone yellow and black motif, complete with a grandiose chandelier at the entrance. A more formal dining area is located at the front whereas the back area is darker and more intimate and contains an unusual curved bar. The menu has changed since I last visited - it seems more adventurous and is now best described as modern European/mediterranean.

I started with the smoked duck breast salad which was delicious and my friend chose the black truffle and cheese souffle which is truly delightful. For the main course I took the quail stuffed with foie gras. My friend chose the squid ink linguine which was also good. There is a choice of souffles for desert but we tried the apple and rhubard crumble and the coconut and mango parfait.
We really fell in love with the new location and the modern mediterranean cuisine. Afterwards we hung around for cocktails at the bar chatting to the friendly barman. Can't wait to go back.    [08 Oct 2008 07:22:23]
