Description:
A lovely "old Europe" restaurant in the Imparatul Romanilor hotel in the heart of Sibiu. Tables are separated by decorative frosted glass panels, creating an intimate feeling in this large space. Romanian and continental cuisine and wines. Several veg*n dishes are available. The stained glass ceiling slides open to view the sky on warm evenings. In July 1999 we enjoyed a full meal for three, with wine and tip, for under US$25.

Old World Europe
A truly lovely, "old Europe" restaurant in the 3-star Imparatul Romanilor hotel in the heart of Sibiu. Excellent Romanian cuisine and wines. Full European service -- and it's even friendly! The stained glass ceiling slides open to view the sky on warm evenings. My vegan dishes were delicious, as were my companions' vegetarian and non-veg meals. They often have entertainment at dinnertime (which tends to linger quite late, in the European tradition), ranging from very good to kinda lame. There were private parties each time we went. We were told that it is a big hangout for the rival Gypsy factions (King and Emperor), but we were spared this. For Romania this is a very expensive restaurant; with our US dollars it was quite a bargain. A brief walk from the Piata Mare, Brukenthal museums, and the citadel walls.    [16 Dec 1999 12:11:28]
