Nice but Slow Ajili Mojili offers reasonably-priced Puerto Rican fare in surprisingly (for the price) upscale surroundings. The traditional favorites are probably better bets than the more modern interpretations of local fare. The mofongo (get it with the garlic) is excellent, as is the asopao de camarones (shrimp soup with rice).
Many of the appetizers tend to be heavy on starch, and heavily fried, but that's typical in Puerto Rican food, so don't worry about the calories, and just enjoy the feast.
Of the desserts, I'd take the rich, moist Tres Leches over the overly-solid, dense flan.
The service was quite slow (even by Caribbean standards) on the night we dined there, but the kitchen was slammed by a couple of large parties just before we arrived, so the lapses may not have been normal. Otherwise, the servers were quite good and attentive - and our waiter did apologise for the slow kitchen.
